Broo with blaster's.

Also known as Phagon's or Rogue Trader Beastmen.

I bought these guys about five or six years ago, when I first stumbled upon their continued existence at EM4. I had long thought that they had been lost after Metal Magic closed up shop. It's a great shame that Metal Magic didn't market themselves well enough back in the day, because they really did make some fine minis. I only every saw their stuff in a calendar I picked up back in the early 90's.

So, once I had them in my grubby little paws I quickly cleaned them up, based & base coated them.....and then promptly left them in that state for half a decade :(

It's only been over the past year or so that I've come across other people's painted examples, which had the effect of giving me a well deserved kick up the bumb to get mine finished.

So, here's a group shot to kick off this here pictorial feast. Enjoy!

Behold! The glowing goat men!!!!

I alternated between grey & light brown for their fur.

Yes, I know, their a bit glowy aren't they.

Not the stealthiest of soldiers in the dark.

Must remember to ease back a little on the airbrush trigger when attempting OSL.

Not sure if the rusted metal on the base looks convincing enough? Still looks a bit like sprue off cuts to me.

Here's a few of them that I think turned out ok,

Like I already mentioned, their a bit glowy, too much in my opinion! But once I'd hit them with the airbrush I couldn't go back. I blame the tools.

I opted for a standard metal armour paint scheme on these guys. I don't think it would have been a good idea to introduce another colour to them alongside the bright blue blaster's :)

Well, more grist for the mill, ala troops for the tabletop done. I did a quick calculating the other day, after looking at my mini horde. I figured if I painted one mini a week it will take me about four to five years to get them all done. What a sobering thought!

I'll be taking these guys back with me to Australia at the end of the month, so they'll be getting some tabletop action soonish. Stay tuned.

Oh, and I'm well aware of that statement I made in my previous post, about never batch painting again. Lesson learned, never make promises in writing.....especially on the net!!!

Ok, time for me to bugger off.

Cheers :)

  2. I like the glow effect myself, it's a good contrast to the basing and fur. Re. rusted base items - they look good to me but perhaps a few spots of snakebite leather or an orange paint? That's what I use to make my that a bit more patchy anyway :)

    1. I usually use dark brown & orange over a metallic base coat. I think your right though, the extra colour would add more contrast. It's lacking that isn't it. Thanks for the tip Ragsta :)

    1. Your the second person that commented positively about the blaster's. Maybe it looks better in the photos? To me there's a tad too much, but not enough to redo it :)

      Ta Mr Zinnling.

Just as well you know how to use it, great job on the blasters!

    1. About the only thing I can do with it competently is blast an area with it. No fine detail work for me. I mainly use it just for undercoating & vanishing minis & spraying large models.....basically big arse areas.

I bought the cheapest airbrush I could from Supercheap (shows you how much of a tight arse I am) & compressor off eBay and began airbrushing in earnest. The airbrush is rubbish really, it's not the operator :D I'd like to get a good one, but my aversion to spending money keeps me from making that purchase. Good airbrushes aren't cheap at all, thieving bastards!

      Glad you like'em Ace :)

  5. Lovely painting again. Yes, a bit bright, but I bet they scare the bejeebers out of the enemy on a dark night. In fact I like the group shot - I bet they look really impressive on a tabletop battlefield.

Your probably right, once their on the table they should look the goods. I'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.

      Cheers.

    1. Thanks Suber,

I suppose I'm a bit disappointed with this lightning effect compared to the last couple of times I've tried it. It covers a wider area than I wanted it too, but I can live with that :)

I'm looking forward to their inaugural battle in the next few weeks. Don't see these guys on the tabletop too often.

      Cheers.

    1. Cheers Bob,

Glad you like the glorified glow sticks :)

Should be fun having these guys running around the tabletop.

      See you soon.

  8. Really great work - the light-sourcing on the weapons brings these to life & makes for a unique look.

    1. I'm still trying to find my way with OSL, but the effects can be quite interesting.
