Hacking the head off me Nob for Orktober!

Been a while since my last blog post hasn't it fellas! I've got a good excuse though, after severely  injuring myself during a masturbatory incident I was left unable to hobby for a few months. A word of warning to all you kiddies out there, slow and steady wins the race. Anyway, minis......

Over the past couple of years I've been able to track down all of the old RT Ork Nobz, for use in running The Wolf Time campaign. The scenario requires ten, plus a character model, so eleven in all. The only problem is is that I'm pretty sure that GW only ever produced eight variations of the PA Orks. I managed to purchase all of them, but to fill in the missing three that I needed I decided to use one of the other Ork bosses with chunky armour, standing on a SM helmet, as a PA Nob. Another mini I got hold of to proxy as a Nob was this guy from Knightmare Games. That left me one short. Luckily for me, one of the auctions I won on Ebay had an Ork Nob double. So I decided to convert him......I don't like doubles :(

So that's the subject of today's post. Below is the double, which just happens to be my least favourite out of the range IMO. I had a butchered Hhruk mini in my bits box, so I decided to use him for the conversion.

The one I'm going to keep as is.
The one I attacked with my saw.
The donor head from Hhruk, and some of
the shoulder from the Nob.
I changed the leg position and fixed up the damage I caused with GS.
I grabbed an old Space Crusade placky mini and removed his shoulder.
I originally wanted to equip him with a chunky weapon, so I combined
a SM Scout HB with a modern Ork bolt pistol arm.
After I added a few bits & bobs to it I then put the mini together.
I was happy with the shoulder and overall pose of the conversion.
But the gun was just way too big in comparison to the other Nobz weapons.
So I just went with a simple Chainsword swap instead.

Here he is all converted up, standing beside his counterpart.

And here's the ugly bastard all painted up:

So, that's my entry for Orktober 2017 out of the way. I'll get cracking on with the other Nobz soon. Hopefully I'll have them done by the end of the year.

Before I sign off I'd like to bring your attention to an awesome Kickstarter that's running atm. It's called Mini Gangs, created by Curtis fell (a friend of mine), who runs Ramshackle Games. It was fully funded in under a week, but now it's only got a few days to go before the KS ends. So, if your looking for a complete miniature game, catering for easy entry level play all the way through to in-depth adult level complexity, then have a look at the KS before it ends. It's an ace game!

Ok, that's it from me. See you in the soup :)

An army.....never done this before.

I'm nearing the end of my quest to have all the minis required to run The Wolf Time campaign. I could have taken the easy way out and just used proxies, but it wouldn't be the same now would it :)

If you have a look back at when I started this madness you can see the list of minis that I wanted to have. Well, the Space Wolves component of this project have now been officially completed!

And here they all are, broken down into their respective units. Note: to differentiate the squads from each other I painted a coloured stripe down their helmets, so as to help me identify them on the tabletop a little easier. And as an added bonus (and more importantly)  it makes them look cooler :)

First up are the three Tac squads, yellow stripe;

Second, the two Dev squads, white stripe;

Lastly, the single Assault squad, white stripe with black banding;

Here are the individual squad Sergeants, with their respective squad markings on their legs. Coz it would have looked dumb if I painted the stripe down their faces :P

And here's a shot of the whole gang, chillin;

A close up of one of my favorite Sergeants, because I can :)

Great for picking his nose it is!

Having a look back at my "to-do list" of the minis that I needed to play this campaign, there's quite a few that I can now scratch off:

15 Howlers aka tactical squad
10 Snarlers aka Devastator squad
5 Tearers aka Assault squad
5 Trackers aka jet cycle squad
6 Wolf Time characters
11 Ork Nobz. I originally thought I could get away with 5 but after I got some clarification on the Oldhammer forum I realised that I'd need more....ll actually, the last being for a character model.
1 Ork Character model Kulo
Couple of terrain pieces
Dungeon floor plans No#1
Dungeon rooms
Judge Dredd Citi-Block floor plans

So far , if I disregard The Wolf Time thing for a moment, painting up an army has been a whole new experience for me. Sure, I've collected enough minis to have an army.......probably a few times over if I'm honest. But I've never actually sat down, planned out a force and painted them to completion before. This project, thus far, has taken me a bloody long time though, almost from the end of March this year! How all the cool kids who bang out armies for modern 40K do it on a regular basis, while still maintaining a modicum of enjoyment in the process, I'll never know?

I'll be taking a little break from The Wolf Time for a short while. I wanna catch up on some of my unfinished projects first, namely my Hovertank & Siege Dreadnought :)

Anyway, thats it from me :)

May you all have a Merry Xmas and eat so much that you become violently unwell :P

The Wolf Time Characters.

Ok, the next batch of Marines is done. Here are "The Wolf Time" Space Marine characters. Shown in some kinda semblance of an order;

"Say cheeeeesssseeee pretend plastic warriors!"

Librarian Edrigar, on a mission to promote reading to the wider universe.

Durlan the Navigator, looking to the stars for directions, coz his lost, again!

The good Captain Inferno, enjoys waving both his weapons in the air...coz it scares the enemy but good!

Captain Greylock, he's good with kids and killing others......all at the same time!

Captain Storm, made sure ALL the tomatoes were well and truly diced!

Commander Enoch, unshaven, moody and loves to punch heads off shoulders.....he's not fussy, any will do.

I'm pretty happy with how they all turned out. They look unique and should be easily identifiable on the tabletop during play. Hopefully they last more than a couple of rounds, but as a general rule, most virgin minis don't last five seconds :)

Next in line for the miniature photo shoot will be the Space Wolf footsloggers.

So bye for now & stay frosty!

Bullock Jet Cycle unit complete.

Hi all,

I finally finished off the required unit of Bullocks for The Wolf Time campaign I'm hoping to run early next year. It's only a few months overdue.....that's normal :P

The sergeant (guy in the middle) was finished around mid September, but I dragged my arse finishing the rest of them off. Well, here they are now! Enjoy;

I mounted them in few different positions & heights (obviously) to hopefully break up the "same same" look of them a bit.

"Clearing the way" to his objective, smoking a cigar......what a cool dude!

I sort of envisioned this guy shooting from high up, raining death down upon his enemies.

This guys pose is a little boring....meh.

Zoom, zooma zoom zooooom!!!!

Looks a little like an advert this photo. Might have to work on my staging I think.

So, that's one squad down, only a whole lot more to go. But don't worry. I'm almost done with the rest of the crew. I've been batch painting, god I hate painting that way, but it seems that that's the only feasible way to paint up an army. Oh well :)

See you in the soup my fellow lead addicts,
Cheers.

The fat bastard's done :)

Kulo......well, my interpretation of him anyway. His done & dusted, on the mini shelf and ready for pretend space war, and late for Orctober (as per usual). Here's some gratuitous shots of him for you to cringe at and enjoy;

Smile for the camera big guy.....I SAID SMILE YA UGLY CUNT!!!!!

Oh well, his not very cooperative at the moment, so let's get on with his equipment check instead shall we?

Two suspensors to offset Mick (a.k.a. Stomach) and his primary Bolt-pistol, check!

Neuro Disruptor and an overhanging gut, check!

Secondary Bolt-pistol and Power-pack, check!

Evidence of poor eating habits and a Power-fist, check!

Three "skull & crossbones" tattooed on forehead, check!

Bad arse shoulder pad art, check!

Okely dokely, there's not a whole lot left to say about him now is there?...................................mmmmmmmmmm, ok, what do you guys think about him? Is he a rockin space MOFO or a god awful green blob?

Cheers fellas :)

Kulo for Orctober.....in November :)

Better late than never hey? :D

Here's the kick arse illustration Erny did for Orctober.

This has got to be THE longest project I've ever undertaken, so far. And it's not even finished yet! Just a lick of paint and he'll be done. All the previous Kulo 2.0 "work" can be seen here, here and.....oh yeah, over here too. So, let's recap a bit shall we;

I started off wanting to create this fugly hombre in miniature, so......

....I procured this guy, and after much hacking, glueing, converting and green stuffing.....

.....I ended up with this. What a friendly looking fella he is too.

Next up is a few pics, accompanied by a whole lot of waffle some info about the mini and the items that Kulos' carrying. Let's begin;

If you look on the right side of his belt (your left) you can see two small round things....their his dual suspensors, to offset
his ample weight, so that the poor buggers still able to get around......and hurt things.

Here you can see his Neuro Disruptor hanging from his belt. And his gut too, yeah, it's showing a bit isn't it :)

I carved it from an Eldar Las-pistol.

This is what I was trying to replicate, picture taken from the the bible....Rogue Trader

His armoured shoulder pad can't really be providing much protection now can it? I mean, look at his bloody arm!

Power pack for his "other" armour, the kinda armour that you have to turn on.  Oh & his second Bolt-pistol's there too.

The power pack also provides energy for his power fist. There's a club hanging from his belt too, for mashing his spuds with.

"I iz Kulo, I'z da boss Ork here, got dat!!!!"

I've coated his exposed skin area's with a kind of "GS slurry" of sorts, to hide my ordinary sculpting skills, all the joining marks & the super smooth bits of GS. I'm not sure if this will give him a nice & rough, rugged appearance or a rather shitty chalky looking skin tone instead. I guess I'll find that out over the coming days when I start painting him won't I.

Cheerio :)
