Skully Mc Skull Skull.

Well here we are again folks. I'm sitting here in a hospital, bored out of my brain, so I thought I'd bang out a quick post to kill the time. Don't worry, I'm fine, just a mild case of the dreaded HAEMORRHOIDS again....aaaarrrggghhhhh!!!!!

I bought this FW mini, on the cheap, solely because I liked his pose. All the fluff & pageantry they slather on these modern sculpts does nothing for me. So I set to work carving it all off and figuring out what to do with the remains.

De-skulled and de-blinged.

A bunch of bits added.

Used up the last of my GS to hide my "skills".

 And then painted the bastard.

So he can blend in on the beach.

So, that's that. Another miscreant for the tabletop. Thought I'd try this collage thing out too, not sure if it looks ok as I'm mashing this post together my phone. Let me know if it looks arse in the comments.

Cheers all :)

    2. The converted mini really breathes the old Rogue Trader spirit. Very good job, Sir.

    3. Thanks Skully, RT is the aesthetic that I aim for almost all of the time. Those pesky skulls and bling just get in the way of the mini IMO.

Glad you like what I did done :)

  2. Lovely job there Shane! Some great little details - the orc head has come out really well. Sorry to hear about the anus mate.

    1. I think I've used a couple of parts from that orc over the years. As a whole he looks quite daft, but the bits have sure come in handy.

      The arse will survive;)

      Cheers Ned.

    1. Thanks for letting me know Sean, it was impossible to know what it'd look like on a desktop while I was mashing it together on my phone.

      Cheers mate :)

  5. Haha, that's quite a change. Wow, it certainly looks different, I would have never guessed the source material (which is quite a good thing when talking about conversions). The paintjob is cracking, pure RT. So 12/10, extra points for posting from a damn phone, I'm never able to do that!

    1. Just started throwing bits at it until it looked like ok I guess :)

Re the post on my phone, I had plenty of time to kill.

It's great to hear that you like my crazy creation, cheers Suber :)

    1. It's actually not that hard. I use a pencil to draw out the lines, paint, then highlight. A friend suggested going over the divisions to separate the colours more (looked too much like an Italian tablecloth he said) so I used a black fineliner for the job. A bit of practice and it's fairly straight forward....honest!

That Orc head was never going to get used for a proper mini, I'm glad he got butchered for this task.

Glad you like him Merijn :)

  8. That guy is crazy. As in really psychotic looking.
Does he roll on a chart every turn to see what totally random thing he kills/destroys?

    1. Hi Zeta, thanks for finally commenting :)

I prefer the gritty, post-apocalyptic look more than the highly stylised aesthetic of modern GW minis. That's why I mod them so much whenever I get hold of them. Glad you like him.

Re the gaming table, I actually finished it a few months ago. I just haven't gotten around to taking photos of it.....which I plan to do it this weekend. So stay tuned for the next blog post.

And cheers to you too Zeta in Argentina, all the way from Thailand ;)

  10. That's the head from a Rafm Ghast, right? I've got a few of those around here somewhere, but I don't think I'd dare to cut them up.

    1. Well spotted James :)

Yeah, I've had those two minis for ages, was going to use them as palanquin bearers, but that project floundered and I decided that his evil grimace would look better on this conversion instead so....off with his head!

Are they hard to come by or something? Why would you be afraid to cut them up? I thought they were still available. I only bought them a few years back, thought they're still in production.

  11. Great stuff! There's a real sense of life (if I can say that about the undead) in this piece.

The jowly face on the original Marine is a lvoely piece. You gonna do anything with that, or was it oblitereated when you removed it?

    1. Once I saw that extreme grimace on the original mini I just knew it would suit this mini.

The resin head from the original mini? Nah, he was a separate piece, so no damage to him. Will I use him for something else? I'm not sure, it's pretty tiny to be used for an RT scale mini. If you want it just let me know....don't think I'l ever use it.

      Cheers man :)
