Orksies....oldschool RT Orksies to be exact.

Here's a bunch of guys I finished off over the christmas period. I've got another 30 or 40 to do & then I think I'll have more than enough to play any size game I desire.

Now sit back & enjoy the glory that is "mediocre photography in the extreme"!!!!

Obligatory group shot

Some ugly mugs.

More of the buggers!

Never really know what colour scheme looks best on the left dude.

Heavies.

Varied duplicates.

Not really my favourite RT Ork sculpts to tell you the truth.

Gotta love that grimace don't ya?

My pick of the bunch, most happy with how this guy turned out.

I know, I know, the picture quality/colour is shit! Caused by a combination of taking photos at different times of the day/night, under different lighting condition's, with a retarded phone camera & then trying to restore said photos with an editing app that I've never before attempted! Rest assured that this standard of photography will continue until I can bin my phone for a decent camera.

Next post will be about the Hovertank.....it's comin together baby!!!!

Until next time, bye for now & keep your pants on :p

  1. Well, I hope that I can photograph my models as well as this - that's all I have to say on that point! Really nice seeing the old style Rogue Trader models getting such quality paint jobs. I like this blog very much, keep heading for that force of 40!

    1. I suppose their not that terrible, but seeing them all hued in different colour's erks me a bit. I used to do a bit of photography too, but I don't have my camera with me anymore..... sigh.

      Anyway, enough whinging :)

Thanks for the positive comments Ragsta, I'm gunna prep the next batch in the next week, but as you can imagine this is going to be a slow burn project. Gotta finish off the tank first ;)

      Cheers :)

  2. Excellently painted Rogue Trader Orks, you have really captured that early RT vibe. I like the bases and the detailing on the Heavy Plasma gun as well.

    1. Thanks Lee,

I'm happy with the basing technique I use, it's not the fastest, but -as all gamers probably do- I like to keep them pretty uniform. The only difference from my fantasy bases to these futuristic one's is the addition of battlefield debris i.e. plastic offcuts or other bits from the scrap heap.

The plasma cannon guy was fun to paint. I think drilling out his barrel (as well as the heavy flamer) makes him look a bit more like he means business too.....staring down the barrel of a gun :)

      Cheers.

  3. These are bloody awesome! Perfectly capture the gonzo Rogue Trader feel. Its the combination of the weathered, rusty weapons, equipment, and bases with the almost comic style elements. Dark and nasty yet satirical and tongue in cheek, conscious of the absurdity of the over the top universe it allows us to imagine. Nice work.

    1. Cheers Archae,

As I mentioned in the post I've got a whole bunch left to do & they'll be done in the same vein as this lot too. Hopefully you'll be pleased with them also :)

  4. I love those. They are not easy minis to get a decent result, but you solved the issue quite well, I must say. Great, great work :)

    1. Cheers Suber,

I borrowed Thantsants skin technique -with some deviation- which helped tie them all together.

One thing that surprised me about these RT Orks was the level of detail. I always assumed that they'd have basic equipment with little to nothing else of interest sculpted onto them. But they are all just as unique & cool as all the other minis from that era.

  5. Your conversions are, as always, absolutely boss. I'd never have guessed that the two fellows you tagged as the same miniature started out so. Your fellow with the beret looks great and your conversion of the guy in the plate armor is fairly successful. I have a few copies of that miniature and I've never quite decided what to do with the extras, since he's so recognizable. Well done. Would love to have my boys dispute territory with your mob. "Hey wazgit, bring yer tank! Iizit red? Dems red ones go fasta!"

    1. Thanks Composer,

Citadel didn't waste time casting one mini from the same sculpt. If you look closely at the majority of their minis you'll see their modifications of an original.....they did this up to four or five times per sculpt sometimes too! It was a great business decision really, to produce more minis at a faster rate.

Glad you liked this next batch I've produced, next up is more work on the Hovertank & then the next mob of Orks.

And if your ever in my neck of the woods I'd definitely be up for a game :)

  6. Lovely stuff! Whereabouts are you based, my army of RT Salamanders need to fight some contemporary Orks!!

    1. Thanks Legio,

Unfortunately -for gaming purposes- I'm no where near the U.K. :(

Visiting the U.K. at some stage is my list of "places to go & see" so I'd hope to game with a few fellow bloggers/oldhammerers while I'm there :)

      Cheers.
