Two copper feed hose's added to the flamer. |
Fuel tank taken from a "Secrets of the third Reich" mini. |
You can just make out the shoulder strap in this pic. |
More strap action! |
This pic is just to show the hoses a bit more. |
So, what did I do?
I made a shoulder strap & belt (to make it look like the tank was strapped to his back) out of thick sticky tape, cut thin & glued down with super glue.
Used the fuel tank from the mini I took the flamer arm from for my Space Ork conversion late last year. The most useful donor mini I've had so far....even if the mini on its own sucks!
Made a couple of hoses from copper wire and ran them from both sides of the tank to the flamer, trying to make them gather around his legs & feet a bit.
You might have also noticed that there's a bit of a gap between the hoses & the base? This was done deliberately, once the basing material has been added the gap will be filled, making the hoses look like their resting on the ground.
So, his finished now, as far as converting goes. Now for the paint.
Time for a lie down & an afternoon nap.
Good shit! Keep going!
ReplyDeleteEveryone likes a strap on!
Their the next street fashion accessory, I'm sure of it! They'll market them as a "personal protection device" or something like that.
DeleteAre you still getting a Nurgle vibe from the mini? For me its the head horn that gives it the Nurgle angle but would rather see him painted non chaos; get him looking more like those Bob Olley pirate mini's that are doing the rounds. Chanel some Whiskey Priest and Asslessman.
ReplyDeleteIs that new avatar pic who I think it is? I'm drinking your milkshake? Yeah?
DeleteNot sure which way to go with him regarding the colour scheme yet. Part of the comp is that it has to have some turquoise on it.....somewhere.
JB recommended painting him up orange, like a Deathclaw. Not sure.
Watch this space :)
I drink your milkshake indeed. Someone needs to make a proxie Daniel Plainview mini. There's a Big Lebowski, Ghostbusters, the 6 million dollar man but no Plainview :(
DeleteOn the colour scheme front do what I do. Find a colour scheme someone else has come up with that your happy with and rip it off mercilessly. This works even if the models are not really related at all, for example I painted my imperial guard retro orange ripping off some 60's TV henchmen miniatures someone else had done. I couldn't be happier with the result. It will end up looking just different enough that no one will recognise and thus you can bask in all the praise. Cool Mini or not is a fine place to steal ideas, I know you have a ton of reference mini's saved on the hard drive, flick through them and steal away.
The trouble is that I've gotta wade through a metric tonne of porn before I can find any mini pics :D
DeleteBut I get what your suggesting. I'm gunna try the "glazing" technique that I keep reading about. Base coat white & build up successive layers of the final colour in thin glazes. Interested to see what kind of effects & finished product I end up with.
Now that's a face only a mother could love!
ReplyDeleteSpiffy. Look forward to seeing this chap painted up.
Mmmm, I think a mother would still have a tough time showing affection to this guy. Maybe he's got a stella personality? :D
DeleteI'm finishing up some 40k Beastmen ATM & then I've got some orks to do before I'll continue with him....the warband challenge/competition ends in November this year, so I've got plenty of time to get him done.
See you soon pal :)
